Grafenberg-Metall GmbH - 1946 to today

Grafenberg-Metall began as a small enterprise in Düsseldorf. At the beginning, company founder Kurt Horhäuser collected aircraft and tank parts from the meadowland along the Rhine. Since then, the company has grown continuously, and today its two sites process 55,000 to 60,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap each year.

1946

Kurt Horhäuser founds the company in Düsseldorf.

1946-1983   

We deal in various non-ferrous metals, primarily those used in the automotive industry, such as for the production of pistons or the manufacture of magnesium engine parts.

1981              

Kurt Horhäuser Junior joins the company.  

1983

Kurt Horhäuser dies. In the next three years, the company finds itself in troubled waters. His wife, Ingrid Horhäuser, takes over the business dealings, invests in the company and continues to run it following the move from Düsseldorf to Meerbusch-Osterath.

1986

Ralf Horhäuser also joins the company, which now focuses on the aluminium scrap trade.  

1993

Following a move to Düsseldorf, the business is further expanded, and the company premises are extended from 2,000 m² to 6,500 m² in three years.
 

1999

Takeover of the aluminium activities of Edelmann Metall GmbH in St. Ingbert. Volker Tenié becomes a member of the company and manages the activities at St. Ingbert.

2002

The Saarland operation is too small, and the business moves to Homburg, where a 10,000 m² hall is available.  

2011

The main facility at Düsseldorf also needs more space and moves to a 43,000 m² site in Krefeld. The Krefeld building also offers 10,000 m² of space.
A new press and a mobile shredder are installed.

2012

Following their conversion, the outdoor areas at Krefeld start to be used for scrap handling. Part of the building roof is extended to 4500 m² to create more storage capacity. In Homburg, the entire logistics arrangements are redesigned to increase efficiency.
